13 Best Cozy Horror Games That Mess With Your Mind (in 2026)
Cozy horror games (apparently now a thing) are the strangest genre mashup that game developers have come up with in a while, and somehow it works.

WARNING! The games on this list contain themes that some people may find unsettling. But I’ve done my best to find games that don’t have any jump scares.
When I played Reka for the first time I wasn’t expecting to feel so comfortable. There was a richness to the woodland setting and a curiosity that made me want to delve deeper into the story. The eeriness subsided the longer I played.
I thought I’d never play a psychological horror game, and in a way Reka sat on the tamer side of it, but maybe that’s why horror cozy games are so popular. They straddle the line between what I consider to be comforting and what makes me consider changing careers.
Why do I do this to myself? Like srsly!
Below are some of the best cozy horror games. As always I’ve found a mixture of Steam, Nintendo Switch and other platforms, so you can find something on your preferred platform.
But after finding these for you I think I’ll stick to my wholesome games. I can’t even get onboard with the creepy cute games. I’m just prefer my animals to be breathing ๐
13 Creepy Cozy Games (if you like that kinda thing)

1
Dredge
Dredge is available on Loaded (Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, iOS and Android
A single-player fishing adventure with a sinister undercurrent. Sell your catch, upgrade your boat, and dredge the depths for long-buried secrets. Explore a mysterious archipelago and discover why some things are best left forgotten. โ Steam
Dredge is the game everyone points to when they’re trying to explain what cozy horror means. By day it’s a laid-back fishing sim where you sail out, cast your line, sell your catch, and upgrade your little trawler. Then the sun goes down and everything changes. It’s a slow, Lovecraftian dread that builds the deeper you get into the mystery of these islands. It’s genuinely unsettling but weirdly, still cozy.

2
Cabernet
Cabernet is available on Loaded (Steam), Nintendo switch, PlayStation, Xbox, iOS and Android
Cabernet is a 2D narrative RPG set in a 19th century Eastern European inspired world, with a modern twist. Guide Liza, a young vampire in her new unlife among the unsuspecting townsfolk. Will you retain your humanity or descend further into the horror you have become? โ Steam
This point and click adventure game has multiple endings, paper-doll aesthetics, and although it’s marked as a cozy horror game I didn’t think it was any more horror than Twilight. It does have themes some may find disturbing so please read the warnings before purchasing.
The creepy cozy vibes are perfect for fans of Strange Antiquities or REKA. Created by a UK-based independent studio focusing on creating emotional, story-driven games.

3
Creature Kitchen
Creature Kitchen is available on Loaded (Steam) and Xbox
A creepy-cozy cooking simulator where you befriend local wildlife and feed them their favorite snacks! With a strange house to search and forest to explore, the witching hour has only begun. โ Steam
Creature Kitchen might be the best example of what “cozy horror” actually means. You’re left a strange cabin in the woods with nothing but a kitchen, some recipes, and a camera. There are no jump scares and nothing is out to hurt you, but there’s a genuine tension to it. It nails that early 2000s low-poly, unnerving atmosphere better than pretty much anything else on this list, and is only about 3hrs long.

4
Reka
Reka is available on Loaded (Steam)
Channel your inner witch! Build your cozy chicken-legged hut, practice witchcraft, and forage for ingredients in autumnal woodlands. Solve quests & uncover the great mysteries of the legendary witch Baba Jagaโฆ. โ Steam
From critters to witches. I’ve played Reka and can tell you it leans further into folk horror than anything else on this list today. You play as an apprentice to Baba Yaga, wandering through foggy Slavic forests, foraging, decorating your chicken-legged hut, and helping (or occasionally cursing) the local villagers. But underneath the cottagecore aesthetic is something much darker. I mean the exorcism-style mechanic says it all. It’s currently in early access, and even so it has a very positive rating on Steam. If you want a witchy horror game I can recommend Reka.

5
Birth
Birth is available on Steam, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and iOS
Birth is an adventure game about constructing a creature from spare bones & organs found around the city in order to quell your loneliness. โ Steam
Where Reka has you working with the dead. Birth has you building with their body parts. Birth released in 2023, born out of a covid era when everyone felt very alone. You drift through a lonely, hand-drawn city, collecting bones and organs to build yourself a companion (all very Frankenstein if you ask me). Because nothing says “I’m coping” like assembling a friend out of spare ribs. Its creepy-cozy artstyle and morbid subject matter make Birth a good option for gamers looking to get into cozy horror games.

6
รalรบ
รalรบ is available on Loaded (Steam)
A cozy, handmade stop-motion adventureโฆ unless the maze takes a darker turnโฆ Guide your wooden mouse through a labyrinth full of puzzles & unknown dangers in search of an exit to a happier place. โ Steam
In a cozy, quiet nest at the heart of a stone-and-wood labyrinth, a clockwork mouse sleeps. When it awakens, the only way forward is through. The maze is filled with locked doors, cryptic puzzles, and lurking dangers. But I think what makes this game feel so sinister is the stop-motion animation. It’s less Wallace and Gromit and more Frankenweenie.

7
Grimshire
Grimshire is available on Loaded (Steam)
A deadly plague threatens the village of Grimshire. Manage your farmland, forage the bounty of the wilds, prevent your harvest from rotting away and keep the root cellar full. Can you help bring the community together and survive? โ Steam
Grimshire is a cute but grim farming sim. it looks like one of those cute scary games with pixel graphics but looks can be deceiving. Stakes are high. Miss an important target and there are consequences. How well you do really comes down to how well you can work with whatever resources you’ve got. Make sure your food cellar is stocked!

8
Little Misfortune
Little Misfortune is available on Steam
Little Misfortune is an interactive story, focused on exploration and characters, both sweet and dark, where your choices have consequences. โ Steam
It’s a twisted fairytale point-and-click with adorable art and a genuinely funny sense of humor, but the story doesn’t pull punches and gets heavy in places. You’re constantly torn between smiling at Misfortune’s antics and wanting to reach through the screen and protect her from whatever’s coming next.

9
Servant of the Lake
Servant of the Lake is available on Steam
Begin your new job as a servant at the mysterious Vanderboom estate. Solve puzzles, serve the family and uncover their dark alchemical secrets in Servant of the Lake, a new upcoming single-player point-and-click adventure in the Rusty Lake series. โ Steam
Servant of the Lake sits right on the edge of the cozy horror spectrum, more one of the dark cozy games than cute, but that’s exactly what makes it worth including. It’s less about jump scares and more a slow creep of dread, the kind where a locked attic or an odd request from the family feels more unsettling the longer you sit with it.

10
Graveyard Keeper
Graveyard Keeper is available on Loaded (Steam), PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Android & iOS
Build and manage a medieval graveyard while facing ethical dilemmas and making questionable decisions. Welcome to Graveyard Keeper, the most inaccurate medieval cemetery sim. โ Steam
No list would be complete without this classic. Graveyard Keeper released back in 2018 and generally follows the farming game genre conventions – farming, crafting, fishing, brewing, and frequent trips to the dungeons but with mature themes. It’s a dark but humorous management sim and crafting game rather than a scary horror game, but it feels at home on this list. So if you’re looking for something more like Stardew but with corpses pick this up. I warn you though, it’s heavy on the grind, so expect to spend many, many hours playing it.

11
Graveyard Keeper 2
Graveyard Keeper 2 is available on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch & Switch 2 very soon
The most inaccurate medieval cemetery sim is back! Restore The Town, manage the graveyard, automate production, lead your undead army into battle and turn the zombie problem into a thriving business! Graveyard Keeper 2 is the grotesque sequel that’s deeper than six feet, and more unhinged than ever! โ Steam
The first game had you managing a graveyard, running a church, and solving a mystery. But Graveyard Keeper 2 throws in absolute chaos. You’re fighting off a zombie apocalypse, building towers, and defending the town, all while still keeping the graveyard running.
The corpse harvesting and dark humor are still there, and it’s still built like a management sim. But zombie hordes and combat push it closer to horror-adjacent management.

12
Cult of the Lamb
Cult of the Lamb is available on Loaded (Steam), PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch & iOS
Start your own cult in a land of false prophets, venturing out into diverse and mysterious regions to build a loyal community of woodland Followers and spread your Word to become the one true cult. โ Steam
The game that probably kicked off the not-so-cozy horror game genre imo. Cult of the Lamb is an action roguelite with chibi-like animal characters. That’s why it makes it doubly hard to sacrifice them. It’s easy to forgive some of the unpalatable acts you have to do to these poor creatures simply because of the cute art style. With such bleak subject matter somehow it’s still a cute scary game. I guess that’s why it has such a cult following among cozy gamers.

13
Welcome to Elderfield
Welcome to Elderfield is available on Loaded (Steam)
Welcome to Elderfield, a cozy horror RPG with hand-drawn art and dark lofi music. Manage your farm, befriend or romance the locals, investigate mysteries, decorate your home, fight terrifying creatures, fish, cook, seek the Old Gods, die in your sleep, and moreโฆ There’s lots to do in Elderfield! โ Steam
Let’s end this list on a recent release where abnormal is the norm. That’s the trick of Welcome to Elderfield. Everything around you is unsettling, tentacles in the crops, eldritch beings watching from the woods. But the game hands you enough cozy distractions, fishing, foraging, building your home, that you barely notice how far you’ve wandered into something much darker. It even has a cozy difficulty if you prefer less combat.
