Homeward Bound with Boris the Baby Boar in Adorable Adventures

Adorable Adventures may be the cutest game I’ve played this year so far! But it’s not Boris who stole my heart.

Game key kindly gifted for review. This has not influenced my opinion.

Adorable Adventures crossed my path on TikTok, and being a sucker for any animal ever I mentally reminded myself that I had to play this game.

If youโ€™d rather watch my playthrough ofย Adorable Adventures, you can find my first impressions on YouTube. I played the first 30-40 minutes of the game but I plan on playing the rest of the game for my members.

Members of my YouTube channel also get exclusive insights into what it’s like being a cozy creator in the gaming space and my life updates. While my public videos will continue to be my first impressions of cozy games moving forward.

But let’s dig into this cozy game!

What is Adorable Adventures About?

Adorable Adventures, tells the heart-warming story of Boris, a curious baby boar searching for his family in the aftermath of a forest fire. Over the course of his adventure, Boris will learn to harness his incredible sense of smell in order to navigate stunning natural landscapes and, slowly but surely, reunite with his scattered brothers and sisters, and save his mom.

The serene national parkland that Boris calls home is awash with vibrant colours and aromas. From floral lavender to pungent mushrooms and sweet honeycomb, Boris will discover a world full of scents as he explores. While Borisโ€™s nose will initially be more sensitive to stronger smells, his experiences with the flora and fauna of the park will eventually allow him to filter these out so that he can focus on tracking specific trails, such as those of his wayward brothers and sisters. ย

Explore beautiful environments, reconnect with nature, and discover a gentle story of family and togetherness in this cozy animal adventure.

Follow Your Nose

Beyond my initial excitement for the game, I was most curious about what I would be doing. Apparently I had to use Borisโ€™s developing sense of smell to follow scents and identify their source.

Filtering the smells with the scent-o-meter turned out to be easy enough for me to understand and I didn’t even feel like I was in a tutorial while I learnt the controls. Exactly what I was hoping for!

I got a little lost when scents intersected, especially in the forest area, but it was easy to stumble my way around and back to the correct smell. There was no penalty for following a different trial.

Open World Exploration

The still images I’m showing you here don’t do the detailed environments justice. I felt like I was exploring a real park! It was stunning, like utterly beautiful!!

I wasn’t aware at the time but the setting was inspired by the Cรฉvennes National Park in Southern France.

I’m like the opposite of my husband who reads instructions, and needs to know the fine details before playing any game ever. I just plough straight in and work things out as I go. So i tend to miss out on key points that could influence my experience of a game.

Probably why I need to play a game twice before I can thoroughly enjoy it.

I felt at peace while I played, zooming around until I head butted a tree. Picking up wild flowers and adding stickers to my album and reuniting with my siblings. Gary has to be my fav character. I’ve got a soft spot for him. And the fact that the devs gave all these baby boars unique personalities makes me ever so thankful. I became quite invested in finding them all.

Most of my time was spent running around and maybe jumping into the next area a little too quickly. I just wanted to know what was around the next corner and kinda forgot I was supposed to be following my nose.

But that curiosity led me to find some secret side quests!

Side Quests

With time trials and photography challenges I found myself constantly distracted from the main storyline. This ofcourse is exactly what the game devs wanted. It’s not called Adorable Adventures for no reason.

When I saw a bin I had to ram it. When I saw a cairn I had to knock it over. It was like an itch I had to scratch, even without the achievements.

I accidentally trotted into a waterfall and heard the narrator say something about a lamp, or was it a light? I never went back. Mostly because until writing this review I had forgotten about it entirely!

After a while this did get frustrating. It reminded me of why I stopped playing Gecko Gods. All I wanted to do in that game was follow the main story but kept stumbling across relics. But rather than relics, in Adorable Adventures it was baked bean cans and another smell, and another side quest. It was a lot.

I wished there had been a task tracker.

I wasn’t bothered that there wasn’t a map. Boars don’t read maps after all. But forgetting a side quest even existed bugs me. I would’ve liked to have had the choice to 100% an area before moving on. There’s very little satisfaction in returning to a game I’ve finished when I know I’ll just be wasting time trying to find the side quests again.

Please can we have an optional task tracker for achievement hunting devs, pretty please?

Is Adorable Adventures Worth It?

Adorable Adventures hits every cute note “on the nose.” Its initial draw of cuteness overload doesn’t fail to pay out.

For a cozy game that can take anywhere from 5 to 10 hours to complete it has all the hall-markings of a good cozy game. It’s cute, it’s relaxing, and it’s just challenging enough to keep me interested.

But there are bugs. I would glitch through walls and the siblings hilariously did some weird shit. Gary decided to take a nap upside down and in midair weirdly. It was hilarious for me because he was so cute! It’s not often that I hope for a game to break but I really wanted Gary to do more silly things. I think he was the star of the whole game!

Can I get a Gary plushie now?

But talking about Adorable Adventures isn’t the same as seeing it. You can watch my first impressions of Adorable Adventures on my YouTube Channel, and for channel members only you’ll be able to watch me finish the game.
