You play Ori, a small guardian spirit who fell from the Spirit Tree as a newborn and was raised by a creature called Naru. When a cataclysm withers the forest of Nibel, Ori teams up with Sein, the light and eyes of the Spirit Tree, to restore the 3 elements that keep it in balance: Waters, Winds and Warmth.

It’s a 2D platformer in the Metroidvania style, so you explore, collect upgrades and return to areas you couldn’t reach before. You unlock skills from 3 ability trees, and you can create your own checkpoints with Soul Links, which cost scarce energy cells.

The Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition demo will take you around 40 to 60 minutes to complete. It covers the opening portion of the game, introducing the narrative and core gameplay mechanics. I recommend playing the demo first to decide if this is worth a purchase.

Hob: The Definitive Edition is a wordless action-adventure about a small hooded hero on a ruined, shifting planet. A mechanical glove-arm lets you grapple, punch and warp, and the world reshapes itself as you fix it. You solve environmental puzzles, befriend sprites and fight off rogue creatures along the way. There’s no dialogue or written language, so the story comes from what you see.

While the full game will take you 10 to 17 hours to complete, you can trial the first 30 minutes in the free demo.

You move into Kilima Valley, a shared fantasy world with other players, and make a life there. You fish, forage, hunt, mine, catch bugs, cook, garden, ranch and build furniture, then use what you gather to craft and decorate your own home. Underneath all that is a mystery about the world’s past that you piece together through quests as you play. You can play on your own or with friends.

It’s free to play. You can’t pay to level your skills faster. I haven’t played the newer content yet, but it’s all part of the free game: the Elderwood forest region, then the Royal Highlands expansion in May 2026, which adds a new zone, a new chapter of the story, new housing and horses you can ride and breed. A free Switch 2 Edition is also due in December 2026.

You play a child of light who flies, using a cape, across 7 realms of a once-prosperous kingdom. Collecting winged light raises your cape level, so you can fly farther. It’s a social game, so you befriend other players, unlock chat and gifts as the friendship grows, and share cosmetics like capes, masks, hairstyles, hats and instruments.

It’s free to play, with a freemium model. Candles are the main currency, and you can earn them or buy them, while some cosmetics sit behind a paid Season Pass or shop purchases.

Planet of Lana 2 continues Lana and Mui’s journey after the events of the original. It’s a cinematic puzzle-adventure where greed and the pursuit of power begin to tear the planet’s tribes apart. Lana and her loyal companion, Mui, must stand together against the forces reshaping their world, fighting not just to survive, but to protect the soul of their home.

The demo is unusual because rather than playing the first chapter for 15 minutes or so, you instead play selected sections from five of the chapters. This is so you can get a sense of the environmental puzzles and different environments. The story is just hinted at.

Outbound is an open-world exploration game set in a utopian near future. Design and build a mobile home camper van, and then turn it into the home of your dreams.

The demo has a HUGE 3 hours worth of gameplay, giving you a small slice of its cozy, open-world camper life. It’s open-ended too, so even after you’ve seen everything, you can keep building and exploring for as long as you like. That said, it’s only a limited portion of the full game, with features and content only available in the full game.

Guardian Tales is a retro-style action-adventure RPG set in the world of Kanterbury, which is in turmoil after an attack by the Invaders. You play the Legendary Guardian, solving puzzles, fighting through dungeons and bosses, and collecting heroes and weapons as you go. You can also join a guild, customize your own castle, and take on other players in real-time PvP with a party of three heroes.

It started on iOS and Android and came to Switch in October 2022. The Switch version adds worldwide PvP on a single server, which the mobile version doesn’t have.

In Fall Guys you and your fellow contestants compete through escalating rounds of absurd obstacle course chaos until one lucky victor remains! Although it’s a lot of fun, it’s incredibly difficult to win. So if you are the sort of person that gets stressed out easily you might want to give it a miss. I like to play it occasionally but when I’m not getting anywhere i put it down when it stops being fun.

The full game adds over 200 real insects across habitats from meadows to caves, quests from the town’s 19+ locals and a mystery about a bug theft. It’s deliberately low-stress, with no combat, minigames, energy meters or romance.

The Bug & Seek demo is about 30 minutes long, which covers your first few days in Buggburg. You catch bugs, sell them, and upgrade your Insectarium. Then it stops, right when you’re getting into it. (Rude.)

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a building and survival game where you gather materials, craft, and design and level up towns, then defend them from monsters and bosses. You explore islands, collect what you need, and slowly turn each one into a place people want to live. Up to four Builders can play together locally on the Isle of Awakening, and online play needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

The free demo is called the “Jumbo Demo” and is set on Furrowfield Island, where you help the locals turn their island back into a farmer’s paradise. It covers the first part of the story, which ends on Furrowfield. Your progress carries over to the full game, so you can keep going without starting again.

It’s a free-to-play game, and the free version includes just the Maze mini-game, so you can try the hamster-raising and the one race before deciding on anything else. The other mini-games and cosmetic packs are optional purchases.

You race a penguin through resort-themed stages around the world, from beaches and snowy mountains to Japanese castles and the Amazon, and every stage has its own gimmicks. You stomp on opponents for a speed boost, outsmart rivals with shortcuts, and collect sardine cans for a chance to turn the tables with an ultimate ride. Races are knockout-style: you play 4 courses, earn points toward overall victory, and only the fastest survive, with up to 40 players in a custom match.

There’s more than racing. In Penguin Climbers you scale a collapsing snowy cliff with an ice axe and rescue friends with a fishing rod, and the Enigma Islands are for exploring, collecting items and defeating enemies. You can play solo or in a party of up to 4, and customize your penguin with outfits, rides and emotes. It’s free-to-play, from developer historia, with cross-play across platforms.

You wash up on the island of Azoria after a message in a bottle sends you there, and the mayor hands you a house and a farm. From there you water crops across four 28-day seasons, craft at a loom or food prep table, forage, chat up the locals (some of them romanceable) and fight through dungeons. Invisibility potions let you skip the fighting, and if you black out in a hazard you wake up in town with no penalty, so nothing in the game punishes you for choosing that cozy life.

The free demo lets you play through the first chapters on Switch and PC, and if you buy the full game later your demo save carries over.

Under the Island is a 2D top-down action-adventure with pixel-art ’90s charm. You explore six regions, solve puzzles, battle odd enemies, and meet quirky characters and befriendable animals along the way.

There’s a free demo, so you can try it before you decide. It absolutely nails that classic Zelda feel.

Word Sudoku by POWGI is a word-based take on Sudoku. You place letters by the normal Sudoku rules, and one row or column spells out a word. If you’d rather stick with numbers, there’s a number mode too. It has 240 puzzles graded from beginner to expert, so you can start gently and work your way up.

It’s a fairly quick demo, under an hour depending on how fast you solve puzzles, and focuses purely on a handful of early challenges.

Princess Peach: Showtime! is a colorful, theater-themed adventure where Peach takes center stage to save the Sparkle Theater, using a range of fun transformations.

The free demo gives you a short but sweet taste of that variety, letting you play through 2 levels with different costumes so you can see how the action, puzzles, and tone shift between them . It’s only about 30–60 minutes long, but that’s enough to get a feel for the game.

Captain Toad stars in his own puzzling quest — Nintendo

Captain Toad and Toadette’s search for treasure leads them to a Power Star! But just as they’re celebrating their success, a huge bird known as Wingo swoops in and steals the Power Star right in front of them, taking Toadette along for the ride! Help Captain Toad overcome all sorts of challenges and hunt down the Wingo.

Play 3 of the easier levels in the demo which will take you around 15 minutes to play. Though, that final level took me 15 minutes alone! So 30 minutes of gameplay in total, for me atleast.

Get crafty with Yoshi in a handicraft world. — Nintendo

Yoshi’s Crafted World isn’t a platformer with a craft theme painted on. It’s a world built from boxes, paper cups and other everyday objects, and Yoshi runs around it swallowing enemies and hunting for flowers, coins and the three Poochy Pups hiding in each level. Almost every stage can be played backwards (the Flip Side), which shows you the same level from behind the scenes and may reveal secret areas you missed. Mellow Mode gives Yoshi wings so you can soar over the tricky obstacles, which makes it the cozy setting. A friend can join as a second Yoshi with a spare Joy-Con.

The demo walks you through some of the gameplay mechanices you’ll enjoy in the full version, and introduces you to the mischievous Poochy Pups who hide throughout the levels.

SQUARE ENIX presents HARVESTELLA, a brand-new lifestyle simulation RPG. — Square Enix

Harvestella is a Life Simulation RPG where you can enjoy daily life, socializing, and adventuring. For example, you could spend a relaxing day farming, fishing, or raising livestock.

The Harvestella demo takes approximately 2 to 4 hours to complete, but it can last up to 7–8 hours for if you want to maximize early-game resources. The demo covers the prologue and first two chapters, restricted to 15 in-game days, with all progress transferable to the full game.

Mr. MONOPOLY is looking for a temporary stand-in while he takes vacation! Get ready to engage in a real-time competitive race to see who has what it takes to take Mr. Monopoly’s place.

The Monopoly Madness demo is only 15 to 30 minutes, roughly, of gameplay, which includes a tutorial and two Story levels. It’s one of the few cozy demos I’ve played that made me immediately go buy the full game. It was such fun! The demo is available in single-player or local multiplayer but your progress doesn’t carry over.

Coffee Talk is a coffee brewing and heart-to-heart talking simulator about listening to peoples’ problems and helping them by serving a warm drink or two. — Chorus Worldwide Games

A coffee brewing, and heart-to-heart talking simulator about listening to the problems of your regular customers.

The Coffee Talk demo may only be 15 to 30 minutes long, but you can play the entirety of the first day, plus a section of day 2. Experience a cozy glimpse into the story and see if this popular visual novel game is right for you. Unfortunately there is no demo for the second installment of the game – Coffee Talk Hibiscus and Butterfly – but if you have access to steam you can play a demo of the third game – Coffee Talk Tokyo Demo.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a social simulation game where you create and observe Miis as they interact, form friendships, get into fights, or fall in love. You can directly influence these interactions rather than relying entirely on random chance.

Your save data in the demo version, including Mii characters you create, can be transferred to the full game after purchase. You can have residents and once you complete the demo you receive a hamster costume in a random color. I probably played this for at least an hour before buying the full game.
