Why does PowerWash Simulator 2 just work?

If you think about it, all you’re doing is cleaning things with a powerwasher. It should be boring af.

I’ve got enough things that need cleaning around my house, i don’t need to clean in a video game as well. I’ve considered powerwashing my dishes into oblivion at this point.

Maybe it was the cute cats, or maybe it was because my husband finally cleaned something without complaining for once, but I found this game so relaxing.

For the purpose of this game review I played PowerWash Simulator 2 on Nintendo Switch 2 in co-op. Keep reading to discover games like PowerWash Simulator 2 you can play that are similar.

What is PowerWash Simulator 2 About?

Watch your worries melt away with each swipe of your power washer. Cleaning feels even better in PowerWash Simulator 2, with enhanced soap that clings to stubborn stains and annihilates dirt. โ€” Steam

PowerWash Simulator 2 is the second installment in the series where you clean stuff with a powerwasher. It’s as simple as it sounds.

You blast the grime off buildings, vehicles and whole locations until everything gleams.

The sequel adds a fresh campaign set around the town of Muckingham. Jobs come in stages, and finishing them unlocks more areas to clean.

New Tools

If you played the original, youโ€™ll notice the difference as soon as you look up. The new gear is built for bigger, taller jobs: an abseiling rig for working your way along a wall, a cherry picker for reaching different heights, and a surface cleaner for covering large areas fast.

Soap got a makeover too. In the first game, soap was limited, so you had to buy refills, and different types worked on different surfaces. Now itโ€™s unlimited, works on every surface, and stays visible on the grime, so the stubborn stains are easy to spot.

Even though the soap is unlimited, I did find that I couldn’t spray the entire level in soap (boo). The soap level does go down but when you wash it off it refills automatically. Also, another note about soap. If you’re playing split-screen co-op like I did, you’ll notice soap is shared between you. So you may find arguments ensue about who gets to use it.

Thereโ€™s also a new adaptable nozzle that you adjust by hand, on top of the usual nozzles that change the pressure and spray width.

Your Home Base

Between jobs you get a home base to decorate (or muck about in).

Basically, you buy furniture, clean it up in your garage, then place it wherever you like. So the furniture arrives dirty, and you power wash it before it goes in your home. Imagine if Amazon did that? Iโ€™d want a refund!

I thought it was brilliant that I could decorate it, so I blew ALL my points on a corner desk, a chair and a rug. And then… the chair doesnโ€™t fit at the desk and I canโ€™t place anything on top of the rug. Whatโ€™s the point in that? Srsly.

There are 3 cats, called Ulysses, Bubbles and Squeak, and youโ€™ll find them in the upstairs office. They follow you to each job too.

Such a shame there aren’t any achievements to collect on Switch 2 because I know I pet all 3 every time I logged in (I’ve gotta say hello!).

Motion Sickness

I can’t talk about PowerWash Sim 2 without mentioning how sick it made me feel. Which is funny because everyone I’ve spoken to had the opposite problem – they felt nauseous playing PowerWash Simulator but not PowerWash Simulator 2.

Maybe it was how I played them. The first game I played by myself on Steam Deck in handheld. But the second game I’ve been playing on Switch 2 docked on the TV in split-screen. I fiddled around with the settings and eventually found that a wider field of view (about 75-85) combined with slower look sensitivity (roughly 25 or less) which helped.

I discovered I could toggle the washer to move with the left trigger while the camera stayed still but as soon as I switched washers, moved around, or basically did anything else, the toggle seemed to deactivate. If only there was a way to play this game in third person or lock movement entirely while washing.

Is PowerWash Simulator 2 Worth It?

I really wanted to love PowerWash Simulator 2, and I came close. Decorating the hub between jobs was the highlight for me, and the cleaning loop is as satisfying as everyone says.

The catch was the motion sickness. Even though I tried, I couldnโ€™t get past how queasy it made me, so it didnโ€™t win me over as much as I hoped. It’s weird becuase I never used to get sick playing a first-person game. Tweaking the settings took the edge off, but not enough for me.

So play it if first-person games sit well with you, you love a decorating break and youโ€™d like a co-op cozy game (split screen was great fun). It’s sometimes available at a discount on Loaded. Worth checking out.

Skip it if first-person games make you feel sick. You don’t have to play every game, however cozy it looks.

Thatโ€™s what sent me hunting for cozy games like it, with all the satisfying tidying and none of the nausea. And Iโ€™ve found some good ones. I’ve also got a list of cozy cleaning games with a bit more organization you can read next.

Muri: Wildwoods

Play as Pelle, a curious cleaner muri tasked with restoring an island back to life!ย  โ€” Steam

Muri: Wildwoods is a cozy cleaning adventure where you scrub corruption off a mysterious island with a water gun, and itโ€™s part 3D platformer too. You run, jump and climb your way around, using a water gun with unlockable nozzles to wash corruption off the nature and the critters living in it. There are 1,000+ items to clean, sketches to collect and secrets to find, and yes, you can pet the critters.

Muri: Wildwoods is what youโ€™d get if you cross PowerWash Simulator with Ooblets. This is a third-person platformer with a great story (youโ€™re saving the islandโ€™s forest spirit), so itโ€™s more adventure than a long list of jobs. And because it’s third-person rather than first-person, I’m really looking forward to this.

Pixel Washer is a cozy power-washing game where you play an adorable piggy blasting grime off pixel art worlds. Games like PowerWash Simulator 2.

Pixel Washer

Grab your power washer and scrub pixelated worlds squeaky clean! โ€” Steam

Pixel Washer is a cozy power-washing game where you play an adorable piggy blasting grime off pixel art worlds. Each level hides colored pixel art under layers of dirt, from muddy farmyards to grimy city streets, and you earn coins to upgrade your washer with more pressure, a wider spray and longer range.

It has the same satisfaction as PowerWash Simulator 2, watching a filthy scene come clean and spending your earnings on better gear. But itโ€™s a 2D top-down pixel game rather than first-person. Itโ€™s also single-player only, with no co-op or split screen, and it launches in Early Access, so expect it to grow over the next 6 to 8 months.

Rug Cleaning Simulator

Turn filthy rugs into spotless transformations in a relaxing first-person cleaning simulator.ย  โ€” Steam

In Rug Cleaning Simulator you run your own small rug-cleaning shop. Customers bring in filthy rugs, you work through every stage of the cleaning with different tools and machines, then get paid and spend your earnings on better equipment and improvements to your shop. The rugs, customers and jobs are procedurally generated, so each workday is a bit different, and thereโ€™s no timer to rush you.

If you love the โ€œmess becomes spotlessโ€ loop in PowerWash Simulator 2, this is the same satisfaction in a smaller package, one rug at a time instead of whole buildings.

4

House Flipper

Buy, repair and remodel devastated houses. Give them a second life and sell them at a profit! โ€” Steam

In House Flipper youโ€™re a one-person renovation crew. Story missions teach you the basics (cleaning, painting, tiling, demolition and construction), then you buy run-down houses, fix them up and sell them for a profit. You get a paint roller, window cleaner, plaster tool, mop, hammer and a trusty tablet, and every house is a mess to work through room by room.

Itโ€™s the closest cousin to PowerWash Simulator 2 in the โ€œmake a filthy place niceโ€ sense, but cleaning is only one part of the job. You also paint, build and decorate, and the buying and selling gives it a business side. Itโ€™s first-person like PowerWash Simulator 2, so the same queasiness could catch you out. The Remastered Collection adds a top-down view, which a reviewer on Steam mentioned, but I havenโ€™t tested whether that helps. I never got motion sickness playing it.

House Flipper 2

Clean your worries away with this relaxing renovation simulator! Buy, fix, sell, and become a local legend. โ€” Steam

House Flipper 2 is the sequel, set in the seaside town of Pinnacove. Story mode has long renovation projects and quick jobs, and Sandbox mode lets you build a house from scratch. Up to 4 players can team up online across PC and consoles using the free Co-op DLC, in both modes.

If decorating your home base was the best part of PowerWash Simulator 2, this is that idea as a whole game, with cleaning, decorating and building all in one. Itโ€™s first-person too, so keep that in mind. One difference: thereโ€™s no split screen like in PowerWash Simulator 2, so co-op is online only.

CleanTwin is a first-person cleaning adventure game on Steam where you blast grime and clutter with a bubble gun.

CleanTwin

Blast away grime and clutter with your BubbleGun, turning filthy spaces into pristine sanctuaries. โ€” Steam

You start from a cozy hub, restore messy locations, and earn XP to unlock 15 upgrades across guns, bubbles and splashes, with five skill paths to choose from. There are also optional paint guns that let you vault, slide, jump higher or stick to walls. Steam promises no enemies and no timers.

The โ€œwatch the filth disappearโ€ satisfaction is the same as in PowerWash Simulator 2, but itโ€™s more playful, with bubbles, upgrades and a bit of parkour. Itโ€™s first-person, so try the demo first.

Fresh Start is a relaxing single player game, in which you embark on a mission to clean up the world and restore nature to its fresh and colorful shape.

7

Fresh Start Cleaning Simulator

Fresh Start is a relaxing single player game, in which you embark on a mission to clean up the world and restore nature to its fresh and colorful shape. โ€” Steam

In Fresh Start Cleaning Simulator you restore a polluted world with a gadget thatโ€™s part vacuum cleaner and part fire hose. You wash away mud, suck up the mess, help animals, solve puzzles and grow plants, and watch the world turn colorful again. Each area you finish points you to the next habitat.

Itโ€™s the closest in feel to PowerWash Simulator 2, because youโ€™re cleaning with a spray in first person. The difference is the nature-restoration theme and the story. I’d wait for it to go on sale.

Seaside Wash is a cozy job simulator where you clean, repair, and restore ships from rust and barnacles to pristine condition.

8

Seaside Wash

Seaside Wash is a cozy job simulator where you clean, repair, and restore ships from rust and barnacles to pristine condition. โ€” Steam

In Seaside Wash you run a ship restoration business by the sea, cleaning, repairing and restoring boats from rust and barnacles to pristine condition. The vessels range from small fishing boats to massive cargo freighters, and you work over every part, from the hull and bow to the mast, deck and interior. Salt, rust and stubborn barnacles each need a different tool and approach. Between jobs you upgrade your tools, improve your workshop and unwind with fishing and cooking at your seaside home.

It has the same hook as PowerWash Simulator 2: pick the right tool, take your time and watch something worn out come back to new. The differences are the seaside setting, with dynamic weather and day and night cycles, and the view. Itโ€™s 2D top-down pixel art rather than first-person, so thereโ€™s no camera to make you queasy. Yay!
