10 BEST cozy games for summer I can’t put down

As a cozy gamer summer games can be hit or miss.

Cozy gaming tends to be synonymous with autumn and winter. Snuggling up indoors under a throw, hot drink in hand and watching the rain pour down your windows.

But there are tons of cozy games that have a summer setting. Take Animal Crossing New Horizons for example, there’s sun, sea, and golden sand! No game is more summery than ACNH… or is there?

I’ve found 10 cozy games perfect for summer that will make you rethink how to cozify your gaming sessions when it’s 30 Degrees Celsius outside.

Please read to the end of this post to discover some honorable mentions that didn’t quite make it to this list too!

Season: A Letter to the Future

This game made me nostalgic for riding around my village on 2 wheels as a kid.

Season: A Letter to the Future is a third-person open-world exploration that follows a young woman on the cusp of adulthood. Travelling away from her home for the very first time she needs to document the world before it comes to an end.

Leaving her small village under a protection spell she collects audio recordings and captures still images with her camera of the local villagers and their life stories.

Like all good collection games, she keeps all her findings in her journal which you can decorate and organize however you want. Can you preserve every last memory for future generations?

Cozy Caravan in the Steam Summer sale

2

Cozy Caravan

Ditch your bicycle for 4 wheels in Cozy Caravan.

Cozy Caravan is a wholesome crafting and exploration adventure game. This top-down game just brings a smile to my face because it’s set in such a beautifully cozy world.

You can choose between a cow, a badger, a goat, or even an axolotl as your main character. And with your side-kick Bubba and horse-sized bee Rigby (and yes you can pet him) you journey together in your caravan between towns farming, crafting, unlocking new recipes to cook, and finding lost frogs.

At the weekends you set up shop to trade for love and hearts rather than money. These will reward you with guild tokens that you can then use to upgrade your caravan. I haven’t had a chance to play this game myself yet but it’s one I’ll be playing this summer after long days at work.

3

Solarpunk

If caravans are too grandma era for you then this next game may be more your speed.

Solarpunk is a cozy survival game soaring high above the clouds. Set in the distant future where people live on floating islands and get about in airships you can grow crops, build your home, and craft tech that will automate processes for you while you explore new areas.

This in particular has piqued my interest because I find farming can get pretty tedious after a while so having little bots do the watering for me sounds like a treat.

You can play solo or in multiplayer so you can soar the skies with your friends.

But you’ll have to wait until next summer to play this as it’s not due to be released until 2025.

4

A Short Hike

Not willing to wait until next summer to play a game. I hear ya. How about a classic?

A Short Hike released back in 2019 and has been a firm favorite of many indie game fans.

You play as Claire, a tiny bird who’s come to Hawk Peak to visit her aunt and get away from city life. Go with Claire as she takes the scenic route to the top of Hawk Peak to try to get a phone signal so she can check on her mom back home.

To get to the top you’ll need to collect golden feathers which grant you extra stamina and a boost in jump. I played this on holiday a few years ago now and recommend it to every new cozy gamer. It’s the quintessential cozy game.

Botany Manor

After all that sightseeing perhaps you’d like to take a gentler walk around a picturesque estate.

Botany Manor is a puzzler disguised as a walking sim.

You play as Arabella Greene, a retired botanist who hasn’t quite given up on her adventures just yet. Explore her house and gardens, filled with her life stories and years of research, to figure out the ideal habitat of some potted flowers. Grow each plant to fill up your journal and advance the game.

I played this one on stream and my viewers got stuck in helping me solve some of the puzzles. It’s a stunning game I keep finding myself drawn back to.

6

Park Beyond

If the thought of walking around museum-like estates doesn’t do it for you then hop in your car and drive on over to Park Beyond.

Park Beyond is a theme park simulation game that gives you the freedom to create and manage the Parks of your Dreams! If you grew up playing Theme Park or love Planet Coaster I recommend trying you hand at this game.

I got an early look at this game at Insomnia 2023 and had a play around in the sandbox mode. I was pleasantly surprised by how unique I could make my coasters. I honestly love management games anyway but ones that let me get creative are the best.

I found the tutorial a little long but once you get into the game it picks up speed. Whether you love to manage finances and visitor experience, or just create fun and cozy parks, the game is the perfect partner for long summer days.

7

Sunset Hills

Don’t let all the thrills of theme parks overwhelm you, take a break this summer in Sunset Hills.

Sunset Hills is a wholesome hand-drawn puzzle adventure set in a serene Victorian-inspired world.

You follow Nico a veteran turned writer who embarks on a world trip after publishing his first novel. It’s a peaceful narrative driven post-war game filled with puppies. Which was a clever move from the devs because let’s be honest, stories about war are far from cozy.

And although this tale does contain war scenes and themes of loss, which some players may wish to be aware of its made palatable because of the cute characters and stunning setting. Sunset Hills released Q3 2024.

SunnySide

8

SunnySide

If the Victorian setting of Sunset Hills doesn’t do it for you then maybe the Japanese countryside will.

Sunnyside is a cozy farming game set in a picturesque Japanese setting filled with charming locals and stunning landscapes.

SunnySide is touted as a modern spin on the farming sim genre but I’m dubious. I got to play the demo on stream and found it had similar troupes to many other farming sim RPGs like starting a new life in the country away from city life, buying a suspiciously empty plot of land, and meeting locals who are curious about you.

The only thing I could see that was different was Sparky, your sidekick robot that you need to help and perhaps the setting. Am I wrong here? Please enlighten me if I am.

I personally think it needs more time to bake. I loved the idea of Sunnyside but I think I would only consider buying it if it goes on sale this summer but I wouldn’t pay full price for it in its unfinished state.

JUSANT

9

Jusant

All that countryside can get a bit boring after a time so why not inject some excitement?

Jusant is a short action-puzzle climbing game that will take you around 8 hours to complete.

Your goal is to traverse a giant tower to search for water in a world that has mysteriously lost it. Master your tools and take in the breathtaking biomes full of flora and fauna, accompanied by a peaceful and atmospheric soundtrack.

It’s a cross between Journey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. What it lacks in dialogue it makes up for in stunning visuals. There’s no fear of falling either as you are always tethered to the rock.

If you’ve ever fancied a spot of bouldering or wondered what it was like to hang from a rock a great heights I recommend giving this a play.

PowerWash Simulator

10

PowerWash Simulator

After all that sand and excitement you may need a drop of water to cool off. So grab up to 6 of your friends and hit the streets in PowerWash Simulator.

Wash away your worries with the soothing sounds of high-pressure water. Fire up your power washer and blast away every speck of dirt and grime you can find. Making stuff sparkle and gleam is so satisfying but there’s also something nostalgic about playing with water in summer don’t you think?

Build up your business with a variety of different nozzles as you complete jobs around the town of Muckingham in the base game.

There’s really only one goal – clean everything.

Powerwash Sim has so many add-on packs now that there are even more things to clean. I had a go at Tomb Raider Special Pack on Switch but I didn’t like how it handled. I really want to try Powerwash on PC this summer, especially the Alice’s Adventures Special Pack.

That’s all 10 cozy games for summer you’ll need but as I said at the beginning of this post I do have some honourable mentions too. To find out which ones, watch the video!
