22 NEW Cozy Games Like The Sims You Need To Wishlist in 2026
I drifted out of my Sims phase somewhere between late-night MSN chats and trying to convince my mum that low-rise jeans were a good idea. Today, let’s take a look at games like The Sims that bring back a touch of that early-2000s magic… minus the dodgy highlights.

Those early Sims days were a whole mood!
And quite frankly, nothing has ever matched the chaos. Letting my Sims flirt while Sk8er Boi played in the background was unmatched. But every now and then I get that pull to play a life sim with those same feels. So I’ve put together over 30 cozyish games similar to The Sims.
I’m going to be ranking these Sims alternatives by vibe.
And no, Stardew isn’t on this list. But I’m sure someone will tell me Stardew Valley is like The Sims in the comments.
So, whether you prefer building huge homes, cute stories, decorating or dating, I will bundle these together for you so you can jump to the section you are most looking forward to.
Then I will briefly group games by PC or Switch. I may repeat myself here but this is just to make your life easier if you prefer searching by platform rather than vibe. So let’s get into this!
The Sims franchise is well known for letting gamers create and control entire lives.
I used to spend hours making my Sims look like my family and watching the chaos unfold. My brother inciting the grim reaper from the pool, my sister burning the kitchen to the ground.
I think I worked my way through every single career because I used the game as some sort of Job Centre, testing out every possible career path to see which one I would prefer for real. I mean, what does an art student do after graduation? Apparently, become a celebrity sculptor… I’ll pass thanks.
The Sims lives on in my heart as one of the first realistic life simulation games I ever played. but it’s time to move on. Will 2026 FINALLY usher in the life-sim revival we’ve all been waiting for?
What Makes a Game “Sims-Like”?
When I talk about Sims-like games, I’m thinking of a few things in particular:
- Character customization – shape a character that actually feels unique. Third-person or mixed perspectives work best because I like seeing them wander around and actually exist in the world.
- Building homes or decorating spaces – rearrange, upgrade and build my dream home. Bonus points if the building tools aren’t tied to rigid grids because nothing kills the vibe faster than fighting with a floor tile for symmetry.
- Relationships/Dating – because getting to know other characters is a huge part of the charm. Whether it’s friendship, romance or a bit of light drama, the deeper a characters backstory the more I want to come back and get to know them.
- Open-ended gameplay – a game that doesn’t funnel me down one strict path. Instead, it gives me room to choose what I want to do, set my own goals and decide how I want the story to unfold.
The Best Games Like The Sims (Ranked by Vibe)
If You Love Farming Life Sims
If the gentle repetition of planting crops, tending to your farm animals (especially the teeny chickadees!) and selling your harvest relaxes you then these top farming games will help you unwind. And quite frankly, I’d happily lose an evening to any of them… even when I promise myself I’ll only play for ten minutes.
Roots of Pacha

Farm Together 2
Farm Together 2 is available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox & PlayStation
Grow your own farm all by yourself, or cooperate with your friends in the sequel to Farm Together, the cozy, relaxing farming game loved by many. Start from scratch, with a small plot, and end with a huge area that extends further than the eye can see! In Farm Together 2 time advances even if you’re not online, so you can be sure you’ll have something to do when you come back later. There’s so much to do from hanging out with friends to building and decorating, but really it’s all about the farming.

This 2023 entry into the Story of Seasons series is very farm-heavy but slower, more character-driven and more about raising a family. Put down roots on your new farm in the peaceful town of Forgotten Valley. Bring life to the land by cultivating crops and raising animals, find love among the town’s friendly folk, and make lasting memories with a family of your very own.
If You Love Decorating Life Sims
If you spend most of your time in The Sims building and decorating rooms like a pro interior designer this section is for you. These games lean into that same hands-on creativity, letting you design spaces.
House Flipper 2
House Flipper 2 is available on Steam, PlayStation & Xbox
Although this game is first-person, so no character customization, this has to be one of the best relaxing home renovation sims by far! Grab your power tools and build anything from scratch. With the online 2-4 players co-op mode, you can play both in sandbox and story mode together.
If You Prefer Town Sims
These games aren’t really about farming at their core. You might plant a few things here and there, but the real focus is shaping a little town and watching a community grow. Romance usually takes a back seat, sometimes it isn’t included at all, so the joy comes from building up spaces and bringing your community together.

Which One Should You Try First?
If it’s a true sims experience you want and you play on PC, I would try inZOI. Even though it’s still in early access the graphics are mind-blowing good and there’s so much freedom to get creative. It’s the closest game to The Sims 4 that’s available to play right now.
However, if you primarily play on Nintendo Switch i would go for Disney Dreamlight Valley. I appreciate you’d have to be a fan of Disney for this game but it is so good! There’s not a huge focus on farming, it’s more about building and following the story. You can’t influence the story as far as I’m aware but once you’ve opened all the realms you don’t have to focus on the characters’ stories. I spent most of my time trying to make my island look like the Magic Kingdom.
