No Man’s Sky Beacon Update and Wholesome Direct Set the Stage for a Cozy Summer of Games

From a surprise space-sim twist to a feel-good festival full of gentle indie titles, it’s honestly one of the most exciting weeks we’ve had in a while. Let’s take a peek, shall we?

No Man’s Sky might not be the first game that comes to mind when you think of cozy vibes. But its latest Beacon update is changing that. Released earlier this week, the patch introduces a city-building mode where players can construct and manage peaceful settlements across the stars.

Yes, cozy sci-fi is a thing now, and we are so here for it.

Alongside the new building features, the update adds full support for the Nintendo Switch 2. There are improved framerates, cross-save support, and even touchscreen functionality for handheld players. Best of all, it’s completely free if you already own the game on Switch. No need to repurchase or stress about upgrades. Just relax and continue where you left off.

What makes this update so special is how it encourages you to play at your own pace.

You can design and grow your own little off-world sanctuary without the pressure of survival mechanics or constant danger. It’s peaceful, thoughtful, and oddly comforting. A little like a galactic version of tending your island in Animal Crossing.

And if space isn’t quite your scene, don’t worry. Wholesome Direct is back as part of Summer Game Fest. It will showcase more than 60 cozy indie games filled with kind stories, soft art, and gentle gameplay. Expect dev interviews, launch dates, and maybe even a few surprises.

It’s the kind of showcase that feels like a warm hug, perfect for discovering your next favourite slow game.

I was invited to co-stream again this year but unfortunately unable to due to moving home. But I’ll be watching from the comfort of my sofa and discussing the new game releases over tea in our Discord Community.

It’s lovely to see this kind of energy in the cozy gaming space. With more developers prioritising slow and mindful play, and major platforms like the Switch 2 preparing for smoother experiences, it really feels like cozy gaming is having a moment.

If you’re looking to add a few new favourites to your list, I’ve shared some personal picks in my post, 10 Best Cozy Games for 2025 Already On My Wishlist. You’ll find plenty of titles that are wholesome, soothing, and made for slower days.

Whether you’re building a base among the stars or planning your weekend around Wholesome Direct, this is your sign to lean into calm gaming moments. Cozy gaming isn’t just surviving. It’s thriving!

Summer Game Fest is usually packed with big trailers and loud reveals, but there’s a growing pocket of calm in the chaos. Indie showcases like Wholesome Direct and Day of the Devs are where the real magic happens for cozy gamers.

Wholesome Direct goes live on 7th June, followed by Day of the Devs right after. Both are streamed on YouTube and Twitch as part of Summer Game Fest weekend.
