10 Best Spooky Cozy Games This Season (2025 Edition)

If you’ve ever played a nice game but wished it was a bit more tense, these spooky-but-cozy games might be just what you’re searching for.

As someone who has played everything from games with cute cats (yes, they exist…and yes I bought them just so I could pet them) to fighting giant bosses in JRPGs like Final Fantasy XV, I’ve gotta be honest with you… I’m a total wimp when it comes to cozy horror games. I don’t think there can even be such a thing.

Cozy = safe, in my opinion. Would you disagree?

But apparently, it is a thing—and I’ll admit, it’s growing on me. There’s something charming about eerie worlds where you can enjoy some spooky vibes without losing sleep over them.

So today, I want to share a few spooky-but-cozy games you can play this month if you’re craving something a little less tame (and a little more ghostly). Mind you, these games can be played all year round if you want. So why wait until Halloween!

Can Horror Games be Cozy?

Some spooky games can be strangely comforting. It’s not about jump scares or gore, it’s about atmosphere, and curiosity. Here’s why some horror games can actually feel cozy:

  • They’re weirdly immersive – Wandering through quiet, abandoned places can feel peaceful in its own way. You get lost in the mood and mystery, almost like exploring a forgotten corner of the world.
  • They give you a safe scare – You’re in control. You can pause, step away, or laugh off the tension. It’s a bit like watching a lightning storm from inside the warmth of your bedroom, it’s exciting, but you know you’re safe.
  • They make ordinary moments feel special – When a game is eerie and quiet, every flicker of light or bit of calm stands out more. The relief after a tense moment feels like a big exhale, and somehow… that’s cozy too.

Okay, I think I just convinced myself that cozy horror games are a thing.

The games on this list blur the line between cozy and creepy, I’ll let you decide where they fall. As always I’ve found a mixture of Steam, Nintendo Switch and other platforms, so you can find something on your preferred platform.

Personally, no 3 and 5 are my top picks!

Have A Nice Death

Have a Nice Death is a 2D action roguelite game where you play as Death. Death is fed up with corporate life and has to show his out-of-control employees whose boss. Since Death can’t die you can play the levels over and over again, and just button mash your way through, so I guess it’s kinda cozy… right? OK, I’m pushing it with this one, but if you don’t mind a bit of combat it’s worth a play this Halloween season.

Cabernet

Cabernet is a 2D narrative RPG set in a 19th century Eastern European inspired world, with a modern twist. Guide Liza, a young vampire in her new unlife among the unsuspecting townsfolk. Will you retain your humanity or descend further into the horror you have become?

This point and click adventure game has multiple endings, paper-doll aesthetics, and although it’s marked as horror I didn’t think it was any more horror than Twilight. It does have themes some may find disturbing so please read the warnings before purchasing.

Keeper

NEW RELEASE! Keeper is an atmospheric puzzle adventure in which a long-forgotten lighthouse is awakened and, joined by a spirited seabird, it embarks upon a heartening tale of unlikely companionship, and an unexpected journey into realms beyond understanding.

This wordless and weird game is basically a walking sim with a few light puzzles, but the main pull is its beautiful art style. The environments are head-spinningly gorgeous! It’s just unusual enough for it to be classed as a creepy cozy game for Halloween this year.

Agatha Christie – Death on the Nile

Agatha Christie – Death on the Nile is the second title from Microids Studio Lyon, following the critically acclaimed Agatha Christie – Murder on the Orient Express.

In Death on the Nile, a peaceful cruise turns into a nightmare when a murder shatters the tranquillity of the voyage. Fortunately, renowned detective Hercule Poirot is on board. At the same time, a parallel investigation led by private detective Jane Royce takes players from London to Mallorca, New York, and finally to Egypt. The two storylines converge in Abu Simbel, where this dynamic investigative duo must solve a tangled case full of twists and intrigue.

This isn’t just a simple retelling of the original novel. New layers, secrets, and unexpected turns have been added to surprise even the most devoted Agatha Christie fans.

Strange Antiquities

Strange Antiquities is a new dark and cosy adventure set in the world of Undermere. It’s a place of ancient woodland, candle-lit libraries, strange goings-on and dark mysteries.

You become the custodian of a store dealing in occult antiquities. Find and identify arcane artefacts, use your collection to aid the townsfolk with their unusual problems — and remember to pet your cat!

Every day, you will welcome new customers into the cosy, candle-lit interior of your shop. Their needs are unpredictable and often alarming, but never dull!

It all begins when you receive a letter from a distant aunt informing you of your inheritance of her tearoom. Serve your customers their daily cuppa and treat at The Tearoom, but be aware… Sometimes you may be asked to provide morally questionable assistance to accomplish their dubious deeds.

Death is not often questioned in this town. However, with The Police Officer’s arrival to investigate your aunt’s murder, the townsfolk sense someone wants to change their ways. Uncover your aunt’s murderer, and perhaps you’ll find the informant too. Please read the disclaimer before purchasing because this isn’t your usual “cozy” game.
