Why use a Link in Bio Tool for Instagram and TikTok?
If you’re anything like me you probably have a whole host of links you want your audience, community, brands, or clients to visit.
Think about it – as a gaming creator, you probably have a YouTube channel, Instagram profile, TikTok, Discord, Facebook Page, Twitch stream, Throne wishlist, Amazon Storefront, and perhaps even a portfolio or in my case a gaming blog.
You need to keep all of those links in one tidy and accessible space for your audience to find you on other platforms.
Because let’s be honest, us gamers have to diversify our income streams to make a living so we need to be on multiple platforms.
So, it can get kinda messy.
And really, we want our audience to find us in as little steps as possible right?
The ‘3-Click Rule’
Have you heard of the ‘3-click rule’? If not it’s basically an old graphic design term dating back to 2001, where it’s said a user should take no more than 3 clicks away from their query to their destination.

So, in layman’s terms, if your goal is to get someone from your Instagram to your YouTube channel you wouldn’t send them to your link in bio, then your website, followed by your About Page, and finally, your YouTube Channel. That would take 4-clicks and by that time they probably got distracted by slow-loading pages or a blog post you’ve written, or worse… hit close.
You want them to be able to get there as quickly as possible. Don’t waste their time!
That’s where a link in bio tool can come in real handy.
The BEST Link in Bio Tool for Instagram and TikTok
I’ve tried tons of different link in bio tools and I’ll list a few of them at the bottom of the page so you have options, BUT the best tool I’ve used by far and the one I’ve been using for over a year now is Liinks.co
You’ll struggle to find another link in bio tool that has better customization in my opinion.
I picked it because not only is it FREE to set up your profile and customize it exactly how you want but it’s simple for beginners to understand. It literally takes minutes to set up!
I don’t know about you but my time is precious, I’ve got errands to run and games to play, so I don’t like spending hours customizing things.
I just want them to work.
Liinks comes with pre-designed templates you can choose from so you can get started right away just by adding your socials, but you can then further customize the look and feel if you want to.
How to set up your link in bio with Liinks
Let’s set up a new link in bio together:
Getting Started with Liinks
To begin with, you’ll need to enter your name to create your URL (the link you’ll use in the future). I recommend using the username/brand name that you go by across your socials.
I already have mine https://liinks.co/hercozygaming but for the sake of this demonstration, I’ll start up a new one.
You’ll be prompted to enter your email address and login information to access your profile. Once you’ve done that you’ll get a screen similar to this one:
Here you can pick a template to get you started. So this will come in handy if you’re not that interested in customization. But we’re going to start from scratch so I can show you how to make a gorgeous-looking tailored landing page for your audience.
If you did pick a template the following steps will be slightly different. Instead, follow the onscreen setup first.
Customizing your Landing Page
The layout of your Liinks dashboard is fairly intuitive.
Down the left-hand hand of your screen, you’ll find your Content Blocks, which are the pre-built sections you need to build out your page. On the right, you’ll see the Styles section – customization boxes and drop-down sections where you can add your own links, change fonts, colours, and more.
Everything will look slightly different if you’re viewing it on your phone. Your link in bio site will show at the top of your screen and the bottom half will have your Content Blocks and Styles.
Centrally you’ll see a basic template of your link in bio site with an image, your username, one email link and 4 example buttons. You can click on any element and it will work as if you were on the actual page.
How cool is that?!
We’re now going to take a look at the Content Blocks and Styles individually so you can get a feel for what each section does to your site.
Content Blocks
To add a new block click on ‘Example Button 1’ and you’ll get a pop-up. Choose from any of the options to add to your homepage.
Personally, I recommend starting with Email. If you’re a gaming content creator who wants to work with brands and gain sponsorships then they need a way to contact you. Make it easy for them to reach you.
This is what it’ll look like:
Now you’ll see that your Content Blocks have changed.
To add a new block you’ll need to tap on the blue plus icon. Go ahead and add a couple more blocks.
I run 2 communities called ‘Cozy Millennial Gamers’ on Facebook and Discord but I don’t want separate blocks for each so instead I’m going to group them together in to a drop down folder. To do this, add a Group and give it a name. I’ll call my folder – Find older gamers who love to play cozy games 👇
See how that block is outlined in purple rather than blue? That’s now a folder. You can drag and drop other blocks underneath it to add it to the group and when someone clicks on that block it will show a drop down of each one.
It’s a tidy way to keep similar content in one place.
See how those new content blocks don’t show up on the page?
Once you’re done adding blocks to that Group you can create a new block in the same way, by clicking on the blue plus icon, but this time you’ll need to unlink it from the group.
Go ahead and make the block and hit create. Once back on the blocks screen, you’ll see a purple icon folder above your block. Click that to disconnect it and it will show on your page as a separate block.
That block has now turned back blue and as you can see I’ve added a video to my page.
YouTube videos work great in Liinks because they play directly on the page without going to your YouTube Channel, so viewers don’t have to click away to watch and you still get the view.
One last thing before I move on – your social media icons.
At the top of your page, you’ll see ‘Icons’. Tap the plus next to it and add all your links to your social media platforms.
Styles
Now that you have a basic understanding of the content blocks you can move on to making your page look and feel more like your brand.
I always start with the meat and potatoes because otherwise you’ll have nothing to style out! But I know this is the fun part so let’s dive in.
First you’re going to want to update your profile picture and add a bio, just like on Instagram. I recommend keeping it concise though. You really want to grab people’s attention quickly here.
Once you’ve add your profile picture and bio you have the option to add a Primary Background – that’s the header. Choose from colour, gradient, split, or photo. I decided to add a photo of my desk setup.
I have a dark green room with a maximalist, grand millennial vibe so I tried to mimic that feel on my page. I suggest you follow your own branding.
More from Styles:
- Cards – are your Content Boxes and you can shape them to match your preferred aesthetic.
- Fonts – change the look of your name, bio, and body text.
- Social & Sharing – where you can add additional ‘nice to have’ elements like your own logo, a search functionality, a QR code, a share button and more.
The Finished Look
Now you should have a sharable link in bio that matches your brand and has all your links in one place!
If you’re a bit stuck on how to make your page stand out and look good then I highly recommend looking at the Liinks Gallery for inspiration from real creators who’ve used the tool too.
To activate your link you’ll need to sign up to Liinks and subscribe to a monthly plan.
Liinks vs Linktree vs Beacons
There are 2 subscription plans for Liinks – Premium and Pro – but you’ll only ever need the cheapest unless you manage other creators.
You pay $4 (that’s less than £3.50) per month and you can cancel at any time.
Like I said earlier I’ve had Liinks for over a year now. Before that though I was with Linktree which was $5 (£4) on their Pro plan. They had cheaper plans but a link in bio without analytics is pointless in my opinion, so you need to be on their Pro plan. I wasn’t happy with the customization options so I moved to Liinks.
Another great option for new content creators is Beacons.
Beacons is like having your very own website and is a good alternative for those who want to sell digital products or courses without paying out the ear for a hosting provider like BigScoots who I’m currently with for this website.
As well as having a landing page for all your links you get all this :
- Free custom domain for the first year
- 0% transaction fees on all Store sales
- Create and send email newsletters
- Unlimited premium AI text and image generation
- Remove Beacons branding
And, if I’m being honest, if I didn’t have my blog I would be with them 100%! It’s the perfect starting point for a content creator who’s turning their passion into a business. So if you don’t have a website but want one without the hassle then try Beacons. Their packages start at $10 (about £8) per month.
