The first Nintendo Direct of 2022 has already disappointed some fans and captivated others with its announcements of new, and old, game releases for Switch coming out in the first half of this year.
I was hoping to get a glimpse of some cozy games I could share with you, but I was left wanting.
Though there are some truly wholesome games coming soon which I’m ecstatic about and I’m sure you already know what they are!
From Kirby in the Forgotten Land to Nintendo Switch Sports, there’s so much we have to discuss. PLUS, find the COMPLETE LIST OF GAMES ANNOUNCED IN THE DIRECT at the end of this article…
MARIO KART 8 DELUXE GETS 48 NEW TRACKS INCLUDING COCONUT MALL!
The biggest reveal for me was the new courses that have been remastered for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass which will cost £22.49 ($24.99), it will also be free to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members.
48 tracks in total will be added in 6 waves. The first wave coming on the 18th March will include:
GOLDEN DASH CUP
- Paris Promenade (Mario Kart Tour)
- Toad Circuit (Nintendo 3DS)
- Choco Mountain (Nintendo 64)
- Cocunut Mall (Wii)
LUCKY CAT CUP
- Tokyo Blur (Mario Kart Tour)
- Shroom Ridge (Nintendo DS)
- Sky Garden (Game Boy Advance)
- Ninja Hideaway (Mario Kart Tour)
The other waves are yet to be announced but I’m over the moon that Coconut Mall is returning! I honestly really missed playing that course. I used to play Mario Kart Wii so much, actually more than I’ve ever played Mario Kart 8. Maybe this will rejuvenate my love for the game again.
FIRE EMBLEM WARRIORS: THREE HOPES SEE THE RETURN OF BELOVED CHARACTERS
Fire Emblem: Three Houses was the first game I ever played on my Switch. A tactical RPG I found easy-going and enjoyable, I ended up really caring about Edelgard, Prince Dimitri, and Claude.
Fire Emblem Warriors, though I’ve never played any in the series, brings back these characters along with some others. I don’t see Three Hopes being as in-depth as Three Houses but I could be wrong. I only say this because it’s more an action RPG with more fighting and, by the looks of the trailer, not a whole lot of story. I hope this isn’t the case at all.
This style of game isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea it’s not wholesome, I’ll admit that, but I do find it comforting and chill as the turn-based style of play means you can take your time and not feel rushed. Plus I’m really looking forward to it so wanted to mention it.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is available to Pre-Order now for £49.99
NOSTALGIA AS NINTENDO SWITCH SPORTS TAKES THE BATON FROM WII SPORTS
Who can forget Wii Tennis, and the many Wii controllers that connected with family members and TVs… mine included. That’s probably why this Nintendo Direct felt like watching a Health and Safety video at work.
Well, it’s back with the games you loved playing before and some new ones…
- TENNIS – rally by gently swinging the Joy-Con controller at the right time
- BOWLING – roll the ball ahead, or give it a little curve
- CHAMBARA – knock your opponent off the platform while attacking and defending
- FOOTBALL – shot and perform diving headers or attach the Joy-con to your leg for intuitive kicking motions.
I see many TikTokers trending with their homemade leg straps.. though I should probably mention you should, for the health and safety of your TV and Dad’s groin, use the Nintendo Leg Strap Accessory which will be sold separately.
- BADMINTON – keep the shuttlecock in the air by swinging left and right
- VOLLEYBALL – serve, bump, set, and spike the ball
KIRBY AND THE FORGOTTEN LAND IS A MOUTHFUL OF MOMENTS
Inhale a car in Mouthful Mode and zoom around, or inhale a cone and…pierce things? I’ve never seen a cone pierce through anything but okay, this is cute.
It’s no secret that I’ve never played a Kirby game. You don’t get more wholesome than Kirby! I have no idea why I’ve never played these games but this year I will start, you can hold me to that.
Save Waddle Dees to grow Waddle Dee Town, solve challenges and work together in co-op mode as Kirby and Bandana Waddle Dee.
WHOLESOME NINTENDO SWITCH DIRECT HONOURABLE MENTIONS
There were so many games to mention but a couple of others that I recommend wishlisting are No Mans Sky, Splatoon 3, Kingdom Hearts cloud version, KLONOA, Portal: Companion Collection, Two Point Campus, and Earthbound – beginnings.
